Taking stock

As springtime approaches, I have started assessing what we have on hand, what should be consumed before summer, what should be layed by. The cupboards show several jars yet of homemade applesauce - which means applesauce muffins will be on the menu a little more regularly. My wee supply of pumpkin butter will continue to be savored in small amounts as pumpkin season is far, far off. We are out of home canned tomato products and will seriously have to ramp up for next year. And so on - determining what worked, what didn't. What do we need more of and what less.

This coming year I plan to expand the garden and our methods of "putting by" - larger gardens, a few new varieties of plants, experiments with fermenting... here's to Spring Planning!
