Tomatoes...

Today I canned approximately 110 pounds of tomatoes. By myself. On a. 96 degree day. And, if I do say so myself, the work went fabulously!



I made a lot of crushed tomatoes with garden basil, a thicker tomato sauce, and tomato "broth" - which consisted of skimmings from the crushed tomatoes (I hate to waste the juice - and it makes a lovely soup base).



I haven't done this in years, so I am really looking forward to tasting summer in the bleak midwinter!
