Keeping cool on a summer day

I try to avoid using a/c whenever possible, and so we use a handful of tricks to stay cool in the heat (and humidity!) of summer.

It is high noon now, and my upstairs deck is broiling hot. Seriously! Its where I put my solar cooker cos it gets direct sun from sunup til about an hour or so before sundown. So where do a laze away the afternoon with a good book? On the shady front porch! Surrounded by trees, it is a cool and breezy place even on the hottest of days. It is also a wonderful place to rock back n forth with a glass of lemonade and watch the antics of the squirrels and birds!
