I took a little hike this crisp, clean late autumn day. The wood is different in late autumn, a great hush disturbed at random intervals by squirrels rampaging thru dried fallen leaves. Large and small, all the living things of the wood are preparing for the long, cold winter. The scents have shifted from green, growing to leafmold and cold earth.
