Early Spring Garden

This is an exciting time of year for me...every day there is new life in the garden...every day something to notice, to wonder, to admire:

Small sprouts have broken thru the soil this week - peas, lettuces, beets - all just creeping u to the light, shedding their seeds, and unfurling their wee cotyledon leaves...

A handful of daffodil bulbs that naturalised in the front garden are have sent out tall shoots - they are in a very shady spot, so no flowers yet even tho I see daffs all over town in shades from the palest creamery butter to vibrant neon yellow.

Leaf buds are starting on the oaks and maples, promising a shady green summer.

Cherry blossom and apple blossom and my favorite pale pink "tea cup" magnolia are all in bloom, their soft pastel hues a welcome respite from the greys of winter.

For me, Spring has always been a celebratory time of year - a season of new life, rebirth and resurrection, miracles small and large. I can spend an entire day in the soft sunshine and cool breezes, listening to birdsong and laughing over the antics of the squirrels, cooing over my wee plants, and anticipating the blooms to come in a few short weeks.
